As part of Ernest Chan’s 100 exhibition, these young students participated in a miniature painting workshop. Responding to one of Ernest’s miniatures, participants were asked to develop their own landscape composition and were taught how to then translate these into a very small canvas. The participants realized that while creating miniatures was fun, it’s not as easy as it might seem. The small surface forces artists to focus only on essential elements in the composition and to paint with precision and control.
